Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Ten Reasons I Love X — could be a certain book, character, author, your indie bookstore, a fandom, a tv show, reading, a hobby, a genre. Honestly anything you want to gush about.
I have decided to talk about the reasons I love Harry Potter. It may have something to do with the fact that I preordered The Cursed Child for half price in my local Waterstones today and got tickets to a special launch event happening in the same store, but alas Harry Potter has been a big part of my life growing up and I want to share the reasons I love it.
1. Awesome Villains
I know we shouldn’t love villains but in Harry Potter we can’t help it! I think my favourite is Bellatrix she is just so mad, but I can’t help but love her!
2. The Magic
This is pretty self explanatory. Who doesn’t love the magic in Harry Potter?
3. Kick Ass Females
I’m going to be a little bit feminist for this, but I love how many influential female role models there are in the series. Hermione being one, but also Ginny, Mrs Weasley, Luna and not forgetting Professor McGonagall.
4. Discussing what House you are in
Ever since the introduction to Pottermore what Hogwarts House you’re in is a big discussion amongst many. I know I have conversations with people about it. I am personally a Hufflepuff, which I think reflects my personality well and I am proud of it.
5. Plot Twists
I loved how their were plot twists at every turn in the series. I think my favourite was with Snape. I didn’t see it coming and I literally remember screaming when finding out about him.
6. Neville Longbottom
He is just the definition of a bad ass! I’d always had a soft spot for him and to see and read about him growing into a man was just incredible.
7. Can be enjoyed by all ages
Harry Potter can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I know elderly people who love the series just as much as people my age.
8. Themes mentioned throughout
There are many themes mentioned throughout the series such as; friendship, family, love, loyalty and bravery. All themes that we can all relate to and learn from.
9. J.K Rowling
I can’t not mention the lady herself; J.K. Rowling. Without her Harry Potter wouldn’t exist. She created a unique, magical world just from her mind alone and that is something in itself. She is the Queen.
10. The Fandom
The Harry Potter Fandom is quite simply amazing. It’s great to talk to fellow fans and fangirl when something new is released to do with the series. The fandom then comes out of hiding and literally breaks the internet.
