Maddix wasn’t afraid of witches. There was no reason to be afraid. Everyone knew magic was dying.
Well you can tell straight from the off that this is going to be fantasy novel. That is pretty self explanatory. I like this opener because it makes you think. Why is magic dying? What are the witches doing? Has Maddix had run ins with them? Opening lines that make you think are the best in my opinion.
Maddix could feel the witch girl’s eyes on him as they walked, watching him as they wound through the town. “Don’t you try anything, Hunter,” Kaolin growled. Maddix swallowed his barbed reply. She had no reason to trust him, but the constant threats were beginning to grate on him.
I am enjoying Catching Stars so far and I am getting really immersed into this world of magic and witches. I haven’t read a YA Fantasy featuring witches for a long time so it’s a breath of fresh air.
