Pride Month – Book Recommendation #3

I can’t believe it’s Week 3 of Pride Month already! I hope you have all been enjoying my few recommendations and finding out about more LGBTQ+ Fiction.

This weeks recommendation is one that I absolutely LOVED and devoured on a few train journeys at the end of 2017. It is also by a new-ish author who is such a lovely, genuine guy who really cares about his readers.

Do you have any LGBTQ+ fiction to recommend? Post them in the comments.

Cloaked in Shadow by Ben Alderson

Published by: Oftomes Publishing
Released: 18th December 2017
Page Count: 350
Genre: YA Fantasy

Zacriah Trovirn is concerned with two things in life: hunting and dodging Petrer, the boy who broke his heart.

Heartbreak becomes a distant concern when Zacriah is taken to the Elven capital of Thessolina, where he is forced into King Dalior’s new legion of shapeshifters. But Zacriah isn’t a shapeshifter. In truth, he doesn’t know what he is.

Zacriah joins forces with new friends and they soon find themselves embroiled in a clash between the three Elven continents. With war looming on the horizon, Zacriah must learn to use his latent power to fight and protect those he loves before they are destroyed.

I first found out about Ben Alderson when I met him at London’s Young Adult Literature Weekender back in October 2017 and was introduced to his YouTube Channel. And when I found he was writing a YA Fantasy novel about gay shapeshifting elves I was so excited and pre-ordered it straight away!
And let me tell you this..I was not disappointed! Cloaked in Shadow had me hooked as soon as I started reading and there were times when I didn’t want to put it down. There was action, there was suspense and there were certainly twists to the story.
Ben’s experience as a gay man certainly shone through when writing about the relationships Zacriah had and I love when authors bring elements of their personal life to their stories and characters. It was also great to have some LGBTQ+ characters in YA Fantasy for people to look up to, as in my opinion there hasn’t been many as of late.
The sequel to Cloaked in Shadow, Found in Night came out last week and I for one am so ready to read it!
