August Wrap Up

August is at an end and that means summer is nearly over! Kids will be going back to school, parents will be relieved and autumn is soon to come. I for one cannot wait.

August was a pretty busy month for me. I turned 25, I got ENGAGED (my boyfriend proposed on my birthday and it was really sweet), I went to a friends wedding, met up with some friends and read a bit.

My reading for August hasn’t been as good as it was in July but I still got through a few books. I didn’t achieve my August reading goals though, but thats okay.

Books I Read in August

Theatrical was a cute contemporary read all about family, friendship and love all set within the magic of a theatre. The writing style within this book was so vivid that I felt like I was there touching the props, sensing excitement and anticipation from the backstage crew and actors. A magical feeling indeed. If you love theatre this is a book for you.

The Island was a book that I really wanted to enjoy after hearing all the hype, however, it fell short for me. I thought the initial idea behind the book had great potential but it just didn’t succumb to it for me. It was pretty predictable in places and I couldn’t connect to the protagonist, Link, the way he acted just wasn’t for me. It’s a shame and I was rather disappointed.

Crooked Kingdom is the second book in the Six of Crows Duology and OH MY GOD! What a book to end it on! This book was literally AMAZING and I can’t fault it at all. This world and the characters that Leigh Bardugo has created are outstanding in every single way and I am just in love. It did destroy me but that’s okay.

Vox was an outstanding read that opened my mind and awakened my inner feminist. The concept was so complex and it really did make you think. The only thing I didn’t like was how rushed the ending seemed and that there were a few unanswered questions left by the time that came around. Despite this it was a gripping book.

September Reading Goals

In September I definitely want to read 4 – 6 books and also get through some of the ARC’s I have been given. I have created a spreadsheet of books I need to read for review so hopefully that will make me more organised.
