Six For Sunday – Bookish Hates

Six for Sunday is weekly prompt hosted by Steph at A Little But A Lot where we are encouraged to give our opinions on a certain topic or a book-related theme.

This week is about our Bookish Hates and lets just say I do have a few things that really irritate me.

What are your bookish hates?

1) Dog earing pages

There is no circumstance where this is okay! Whenever I see someone start to dog ear a page in a book I have to attempt to stop them. Bookmarks were made for a reason.

2) Insta-Love

Insta-Love is something that I have a HUGE problem with. It’s just so unrealistic. In real life you don’t meet someone and minutes later confess your love for them. In my opinion this trope is giving people, especially young people a twisted idea of what love is.

3) People grabbing ARC’s at events and then hours later selling them

This has been spoken about a lot of times and it’s just not okay! ARC’s are for reviewers, bloggers, booksellers etc to read before release day and to get people hyped up for the book. NOT for you to make a profit! Just stop.

4) Long chapters

I definitely prefer short chapters to long chapters. I find books with really long chapters harder to get through. Give me a book with short chapters any day.

5) Some E-ARC formats

I use Netgalley a lot to request/receive E-ARC’s and most of the time it’s fine, apart from when the E-ARC I’m reading is very badly formatted. This makes it really hard to read (even when the story itself is good!) and I then end up struggling to get through it. I am hoping something is done about this in the future.

6) TV/Movie covers

I have no problem with book to film/tv adaptations and I have enjoyed many. However, I hate when the books cover is changed to the TV/movie version. I am a sucker for a beautiful book cover and I just feel that this ruins the book somewhat.
