Proud Blog Tour

Proud, ed. by Juno Dawson blog tour banner

Today I am really excited to be taking part in the blog tour for Proud Book. Proud is an amazing anthology full of stories, poems and artwork by LGBTQ+ writers/artists celebrating Pride and what it’s like to be LGBTQ+. I LOVED the anthology and you can find my full review here.

For my stop on the tour I am going to be sharing an extract from a YA Novel I am working on at the moment that is LGBTQ+. I haven’t shown this piece to anyone yet, so I am a little nervous but I hope you all like it and eventually want to read more.

City Lights Extract

Harper and Rowan couldn’t be more opposite.

Harper is tired of being known as the ‘perfect’ student. Forced to get the best grades by her overbearing parents she longs to be free.

Rowan is trouble, thats according to everyone around her. Taking life as it comes, she doesn’t care about consequences.

When an event thrusts the two girls together, a crazy night through London ensues.

Could this be the start of something new for both girls? And can opposites really attract over one night?
The lights shone down like stars twinkling in the night sky. The bass of the music throbbed through the floor, entering my body. Bodies moved, skin on skin, the smell of swear dripping in the air. I didn’t care because I was with her. She moved closer to me. I could smell her perfume lingering. She gave me a slight wink and started dancing around me. My body wanted to dance with her. It wanted to be close to her. It wanted to feel her skin against mine. Her touch was all I wanted at the moment. I ached for her. In a moment of madness I grabbed her hand. She swung around me to the music, laughing. She moved closer, our bodies almost touching.

“You’ve changed your tune, Harper.” She whispered, her breath lingering on my ear. I shivered.

“You are so hypnotic, how could I not want to be with you, Rowan.” I whispered back, leaning into her ear. I caught her shuddering.

“Come closer.”

Rowan pulled me against her, it was almost as if I could feel her heart racing from inside her chest. This was it, I was going for it. I leant in, our lips almost touching. I knew what I wanted. I wanted Rowan. Yes, she wasn’t good for me, but how could I resist this temptation? She licked her lips, like she was egging me on. I took a breath and went for it. Our lips touched, hers were smooth and had a slight taste of vodka lingering on them. She grabbed my hair, deepening the kiss. I didn’t care who was watching or what people were saying. This moment belonged to us. Harper and Rowan. Nothing else mattered. We were one.
